The Barat Fellows Program

If you’re ready to go beyond the training, you may want to join our local fellows groups. Teachers in these groups earn a cash stipend and prestige through their collaborative efforts to build primary source projects for publication and use in Illinois schools.

The projects on this website were built through teacher collaboratives – because good teachers know what’s best for our students in Illinois.

General Guidelines
  1. Pre-requisites: All candidates must have completed the Learning @ the Source Level 1 Series, and submit an application for acceptance to the local fellows program.
  2. Meetings and Materials Development: Participants attend approximately 4 collaboration meetings to connect with other teachers and design, develop and document a unique primary source lesson. These are usually lunch or dinner sessions.
  3. Field Test: All teachers field test the lesson with their students and attend a final discussion group to share their experience and reflection about the lesson implementation.
  4. Presentations: Participating teachers are encouraged to present their lesson plan to other teachers at their school, as well as at local, regional and national conferences.
The Foundation hopes to run a local fellows program each Fall and Spring.
